According to the Direct Writing Assessment (DWA) scores the percentage of students achieving a “substantial” score on the mandated test is more than double on the east side of Granite School District than those of schools located on the west side of the district. If you want your student to be successful in college, they need to know how to write.
In March 2005, the SAT test, designed to predict success in college, was redesigned to include a writing section. In 2008, the College Board published a study exploring the validity of the SAT itself. The study did find a correlation between students’ SAT scores and first year college grade point average. It also found students who performed the best on the SAT writing section had the highest first year GPA more so than the math and critical reading sections combined. The conclusion is that the ability to write is the strongest indicator of success in college.
Why Endeavor Hall?Endeavor Hall will close this gap by teaching writing across the curriculum. Students will not only be taught the technical aspects of writing but learn to be creative. Endeavor Hall is not a school for writers; it is a school for students who want to be solid communicators. |
